Benchmarks Of OpenMandriva's AMD Zen Optimized Linux Distribution Against Ubuntu, openSUSE, Clear Linux

Now here's a look at how the OpenMandriva Lx 4.0 performance compared to Clear Linux, openSUSE Tumbleweed, and Ubuntu 19.04.

While the Znver1 performance with OpenMandriva was slightly better than the generic x86-64 ISO, we see when compared to other Linux distributions it's much slower. Ubuntu 19.04 / openSUSE / Clear Linux all performed about the same on this Threadripper + Vega system and was a great deal faster than OpenMandriva. One possible explanation here is that OpenMandriva is the only distribution defaulting to the CPUFreq "conservative" governor, which is quite strange. Especially for the Znver1 performance optimized version of OpenMandriva sticking to the conservative governor rather than ondemand/performance defeats much of the performance focus.

When moving to the more CPU/system focused benchmarks like the CP2K molecular dynamics benchmark and NAMD, we see Intel's Clear Linux beginning to jump out ahead of the rest. But even Ubuntu 19.04 and openSUSE Tumbleweed were running ahead of OpenMandriva.
