The GeForce GTX TITAN advantages over the GTX 780 Ti primarily come down to having double the video RAM capacity (6GB vs. 3GB GDDR5) and greater double-precision compute performance. The double-precision performance is of little benefit to gamers and most games / systems won't be stressing 3GB+ of vRAM, so for many of the OpenGL benchmarks the $699+ GTX 780 Ti comes out ahead of the $999+ GTX TITAN.

While the Radeon R9 290X couldn't be tested for this article for lack of having one, its performance is reported by multiple Phoronix readers to be crippled just like the Radeon R9 290 that I purchased and have been testing on Linux. The AMD Catalyst Linux driver has issues with the new AMD Hawaii GPUs to cause performance problems. At least we know from the tests shared earlier in this article that the Windows vs. Linux NVIDIA GTX TITAN performance is the same!
