Apple macOS Monterey 12 Performance Is Surprisingly Competitive With Linux

First up was the QuantLib quantitative finance software package. Using Ubuntu was slightly faster than macOS 12.1, especially when moving to Ubuntu 21.10 with the newer base software. However, Intel's Clear Linux really allowed tapping the potential of this Coffee Lake system with delivering 22% higher performance than macOS 12.

The NAMD molecular dynamics performance was tighter between the operating systems but was clearly siding with Linux being slightly faster than macOS itself.

MacOS 12.1 did surprisingly collect some wins with HMMer and LAMMPS. But with the lighter Rhodopsin Protein model for LAMMPS, Clear Linux did return to its first place position.

WebP image encoding performance generally saw macOS 12.1 performing inline with Ubuntu Linux.
