6-Way Desktop Comparison On Linux Mint 17
For many of the GtkPerf test runs, KDE 4.13 and MATE 1.8.0 were faster for this windowed, GTK2 benchmark than the other desktop environments.
Well, starting off with the 2D Qt4 benchmark the KDE and MATE desktops were slower than the rest but when encountering x11perf and GtkPerf 2D windowed tasks their performance recovered and in several instances were even the fastest desktops of this six-way comparison. When it comes to the full-screen Linux gaming performance with the Cinnamon / GNOME Shell / KDE / Xfce / MATE / LXDE desktops on Linux Mint 17, for the most part they were performing close to one-another. In some of the full-screen Linux OpenGL game test runs though the KDE 4.13 desktop was the slowest -- likely due to it still having window decorations enabled by default even when running full-screen games/applications.
