Running The AMD "ABBA" Ryzen 3000 Boost Fix Under Linux With 140 Tests
With the updated AGESA on this Ryzen 9 3900X + ASUS CROSHAIR VIII HERO WiFi setup it was common to see around a 1% performance lift on the new BIOS, such as was the case with Coremark.
With Coremark for instance previously it was boosting up to 4.47GHz but with the new AGESA was now hitting 4.50GHz, though much of the time the frequency was the same.
One of the biggest improvements was with GraphicsMagick where in the case of the HWB Color Space conversion test was a 8.6% uplift in performance.
As can be seen when looking at the peak CPU frequency graph, the Ryzen 9 3900X was spending most of the time during this benchmark in a slightly higher performance state than previously. For those not familiar with the Phoronix Test Suite, each test is normally executed three times (and dynamically increased from there based upon standard deviation), which is why on the CPU frequency graphs there are the dips during the time between tests.
GraphicsMagick is threaded using OpenMP so was nice to see the higher boost frequency being reached. In the case of the rotate test, the previous AGESA behavior only led to a 4.47GHz frequency achieved but now the optimal 4.6GHz frequency was being hit.
