First up are some OpenGL benchmarks of various Steam Linux games.

The HD Graphics 620 on the Core i5 7200U couldn't handle 1080p with high quality settings, but from upgrading to Mesa Git it looks like there may be a small performance improvement.

The Kaby Lake graphics on this Core i5 mobile processor also couldn't handle running Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at 1080p.

This Core i5 Kaby Lake Cubi 2 box from MSI wouldn't really work out for building your own "Steam Machine" based upon these numbers. There wasn't much change in the data when switching to Linux 4.9 and Mesa 13.

If you want to compare your own system's performance, install the Phoronix Test Suite and run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1611109-TA-UBUNTU16190. OpenGL and Vulkan for Dota 2 on the next page.
