The Core i3 7100 setup for testing was this CPU paired with an ASUS PRIME Z270-P motherboard, 2 x 8GB DDR4-2400MHz memory, Samsung 950 PRO 256GB NVMe SSD, and making use of the integrated graphics. On the software side these tests were done with Ubuntu 16.10, Linux 4.10 kernel, Mesa Git, and the GCC6 compiler.

First up in our initial i3-7100 Linux benchmarks are a comparison of this system to various other setups in our labs at Phoronix. All of the systems were running Ubuntu 16.10 with the Linux 4.10 kernel and range from old AMD/Intel hardware to newer, powerful systems.

First up with TTSIOD Renderer we see the Core i3 7100 coming in ahead of a Core i5 2400S but behind a Core i5 2500K from the Sandy Bridge days. In the multi-threaded tests, even the Sandy Bridge hardware that was also clocked up in the ~3GHz+ range were performing well relative to the i3-7100, particularly for those Core i5 models that are true quad core parts.
