Benchmarking Amazon's ARM Graviton CPU With EC2's A1 Instances

The 7-Zip compression test was one of the other cases where the A1 instance performance doesn't come in too far behind the x86_64 instances, but still it's quite a difference with not a lot of cost savings to make up for that impact.

The OpenMP performance of the Graviton instances were "okay" compared to many of the other benchmarks ran, but still nothing to get really excited about.

The M-Queens solver for N-Queens ran surprisingly well on ARMv8 and in fact the a1.4xlarge and a1.2xlarge instances managed to match the performance of the AMD EPYC and Intel Xeon instances... Match, but didn't outperform, and the lower-end instances were a ways behind EPYC.
