The BX100 was racing with the other low-end SATA3 SSDs.

Overall, the BX100 performance was right on par with the other cheap 120GB SSDs.

The Crucial BX100 120GB SSD is currently selling for $64 USD on Amazon, which puts it in the same ballpark as other low-end 120GB solid-state drives. However, if price isn't the biggest concern to you, for just a few dollars more you can get a 256GB drive like the Transcend Premium that did offer the same or better performance. At the end of the day though, I'm happy with the Crucial BX100 purchase and so far is running well in one of the daily Linux benchmarking systems.

If you want to see how your own Linux system's disk performance compares, you can simply install the Phoronix Test Suite and then run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1509257-HA-NEWSSD86379.
