Continuing with a look at compression, the results between the five systems atop the Atom netbook were close, but Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 again wound up in first.

Next up we looked at the performance of the OCZ solid-state drive with the five distributions by firing up IOzone through the Phoronix Test Suite to look at the 2GB write performance. These results varied a great deal in this test, particularly with Moblin and Chromium OS using the EXT3 file-system instead of EXT4. Chromium OS and Moblin both fell far behind Ubuntu Netbook Remix, Fedora, and openSUSE that were using EXT4. Ubuntu Netbook Remix and openSUSE both had an average write speed of 63MB/s while Fedora 12 was slower at 54MB/s but the EXT3 distributions were at 35MB/s.

Continuing with the disk tests, our next test was PostMark where we measured the disk transaction performance. Using EXT3 instead of EXT4 had not caused a huge loss here, but Moblin 2.1 actually had the highest TPS count followed by openSUSE, Ubuntu Netbook Remix, Chromium OS, and then falling far behind was Fedora.
