At the request of many Phoronix readers, the Linux performance benchmarks to share with you today are the results for an OpenGL performance comparison between a dozen different AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards on their latest proprietary graphics drivers when running a slew of Linux games, including Valve's Team Fortress 2 benchmark, Unvanquished on its OpenGL 3.x renderer, and the new GpuTest workloads.

The graphics processors being tested for this comparison today include the:

- AMD A10-6800K with Radeon HD 8670D - These are the "Richland" APU graphics found on the A10-6800K APU. This APU was used as the base system for testing all these different graphics cards, albeit for the entire duration of the tests the AMD A10-6800K was overclocked to 4.70GHz.

- AMD Radeon HD 5750

- AMD Radeon HD 5830

- AMD Radeon HD 6770

- AMD Radeon HD 6870

- AMD Radeon HD 6950

- AMD Radeon HD 7850

- AMD Radeon HD 7950

- NVIDIA GeForce GT 220

- NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

The selection of AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards used were mostly centered around modern, mid to high-end GPUs that I have within my possession, most of which had to be purchased (though special thanks to the NVIDIA Unix/Linux graphics driver team) so please view these results without using ad-blockers or subscribe to Phoronix Premium.

Ubuntu 13.10 Team Fortress 2 AMD NVIDIA

Testing happened from an Ubuntu 13.10 x86_64 base with the Linux 3.10 kernel while installing the fglrx 13.10.10 / OpenGL 4.2.12337 Catalyst Linux driver for the AMD hardware and the NVIDIA 304.88 graphics driver for the GeForce GPUs. The drivers and OS were left in a stock/default configuration during this OpenGL Linux comparison for July 2013.

All benchmarking was handled in a fully automated and reproducible way using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite software.
