The BoxHeads Halloween LAN Party 2006
Over the weekend, The BoxHeads had put on their October 2006 (Halloween) LAN Party. This event was in Plainwell, Michigan with approximately 100 gamers making it out. In the past The BoxHeads have hosted events up to 150 people, but coming up in December, they will be hosting an event with approximately 250 gamers in Lansing, Michigan. The BoxHeads have been hosting large LAN parties going back to the start of 2003. At Phoronix, we have some photographs and thoughts to share from this midwest gaming event.
Among the day's events were tournaments for Warsow, Battlefield 2142, and Counter-Strike: Source. Other games being played were Enemy Territory, Postal 2, Dawn of War, and much more -- a majority of the gamers were Microsoft Windows users. Projectors were also setup for Guitar Hero and console gaming. The event was also advertised as being a Halloween party, and a few had come in costumes.
Of the sponsors that had helped at this event were Enermax, Tyan, Crucial, Velocity Micro, Antec, Mushkin, NZXT, eDimensional, Gamer Graffix, Sytrin, Wolfking, Gigabyte, Alienware, and more! For being around a 100-person event, there were many prizes for all of the attendees.
Tyan had sent out the nForce Professional 2200 based Tomcat K8E-SLI motherboard as well as the Tyan Tomcat n3400B (Socket AM2). They had also contributed some interesting Intel Frisbees. Phoronix had also helped by demonstrating some of Tyan's and Intel's latest server products at the event. On display were two Xeon setups using a Tyan Tempest and Tomcat motherboard. We had also demonstrated the serious horsepower delivered by these servers by hosting several games on them. We had run several game servers simultaneously without either of the servers breaking a sweat.
Sytrin Corporation had also contributed several of the KuFormula SHF1 Ultra hard-drive coolers, KuFormula VF1 Ultra, and its cooling fan mount for MultiGPU setups.
Overall, the day was filled with very interesting and gamer-friendly events and it had a very nice turn out for the venue. Additional pictures and more information on this Michigan LAN organization can be found over at TheBoxHeads.net. They also have up details and pre-registration for their upcoming 250-person event on December 30, 2006.
