Examination:

Starting with the radiator on the H20-220 APEX Ultra, Swiftech has gone with using the MCR220-QP. The radiator supports the use of two 120mm fans, which are included, and as we had seen from our Radiator Round-Up that took place last month the larger radiators have an advantage due to the additional airflow and larger surface area for heat dissipation. The MCR220 is setup in a 2-pass design with a brass body and tubes with louvered copper fins. There is also a patent pending on this radiator design due to its self-purging brass plenum chamber when in an upright position. Like the beautiful paint job we had seen on the Hardware Labs Black Ice Xtreme series, the Swiftech MCR220-QP is coated in a high-durability acrylic black paint finish. In the water-cooling kit, two 120mm fans came attached to the radiator complete with fan grills for both sides of the radiator to ensure no damage. The fans used on the H20-220 are made by Delta with WFB1212M part number and are designed for 72.4CFM @ 34.0dBA. The Swiftech MCR220 measures in slightly smaller than the Danger Den Dual Heater Core with dimensions of 128 x 264 x 34mm. Also coming attached to the MCR220-QP radiator is a Swiftech MCB-120 Radbox. The RadBox is designed for radiator/fan housing and is primarily used for mounting the Swiftech radiator outside of a computer case while allowing room for the tubing and connectors and for requiring minimal modifications to the actual chassis. As with all of the parts in this kit, the RadBox comes with all of the parts needed to assemble the unit, which for the RadBox includes the mounting hardware and an expansion slot bracket to route the tubing and fan connectors through to reach the innards of the system.

After the radiator, we have the water pump. Moving the liquid inside of the H20-220 APEX Ultra is Swiftech's MCP655. Unlike some of their past pumps, and ones from various other manufacturers, the MCP655 is incredibly quiet in addition to a potentiometer on the rear of the pump that allows the speed to be manually adjusted from 1800RPM to 4800RPM but of course, the level of performance will also fluctuate depending upon the speed. Inside, the 12V DC pump is driven by magnetically driven via a spherical impeller on a ceramic bearing. The Swiftech MCP655 has a maximum head of 3.1 meters and is capable of discharging approximately 1200 liters per hour. Like the radiator and RadBox, the water pump comes in a black finish.
