Computex Taipei 2005 Coverage

Our first stop today at Computex was Abit Computer. Most things were familiar to us, but there are a few things that were definitely worth mentioning. First thing we noticed was a bracket system that allowed a fan to hang over a SLI dual graphics card setup. This would of course help move the air around near the two graphics cards and thus help prevent hot air from sitting around the card. Another thing we noticed was the uGuru Panel. Like the 3rd Eye clock, you can control such things as voltages and speeds from this panel. A very handy feature that they added, however, was the CMOS reset button. Any overclocker who’s tried to push their computer to the limit has probably had to reset CMOS at some point in time and has also experienced the frustration of having to open up the case and short the reset pins with the annoyingly small jumper. This CMOS button eliminates all of that. There was also a new and improved uGuru clock. Again all features were essentially the same, but they added a very nice feature, Skype support. The new clock integrates the program into it and a touch of the button will allow you to call people, groups/teams etc, without exiting whatever program or game that was being played. Overall it’s a very useful feature for anyone who plays team online games. However, its Linux support is still in question. Next thing we saw was the Q-OTES. It’s basically a copper heatsink that is attached to a long copper Heatpipe, which in turn is connected to a radiator of sorts. This is then used to cool the motherboard chipset. The purpose of this Q-OTES is mainly to eliminate noise while still keeping the chipset cool. The design looks promising. It will be very interesting to see how well it actually performs.
