VESA Releases DisplayPort 1.3, Pushes 32.4 Gbits/sec
The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) this morning officially unveiled the DisplayPort 1.3 specification that takes DP 1.2a even further.
DisplayPort 1.3 delivers a maximum bandwidth now of 32.4 Gbits/second, in order to accommodate the 5K displays starting to be announced and providing plenty of bandwidth for the growing number of 4K displays. This greater bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.3 also allows for other opportunities with mulity-function interfaces like the previously announced DockPort as well as Thunderbolt.
The 32.1 Gbps bandwidth distributed between its four lanes is a 50% increase over previous versions of the DP specification. With DisplayPort Multi-Stream, DP 1.3 provides enough bandwidth to drive dual 4K Ultra HD displays over a single connection. DisplayPort 1.3 also supports HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 with CEC.
