Performance:

At Phoronix as we are mostly concerned about other aspects of the products we test -- such as the Linux compatibility -- our display testing is mostly subjective based upon a number of factors. However, before talking about what we thought when viewing this display, it's good to report that the Toshiba Regza 32RV530 had "just worked" with the different graphics cards and drivers we used on one of our test systems with Ubuntu Linux. This LCD TV was used in our article earlier this week looking at using HDMI audio/video on Linux. We had encountered no quirks or other problems with this television and all of the drivers by default had properly mode-set to the 1920 x 1080 based upon the TV's EDID.

In addition to running several tests on this 32" HDTV when it was connected via HDMI to computers, we had also looked at its performance with a Sony BDP-S350 Blu-Ray player. With that Blu-Ray 2.0 player we had watched Casino Royale, Shooter, and The Aviator. We were quite pleased with the picture colors, clarity, acceptable viewing angles, and the audio quality for just using the integrated Toshiba SoundStrip Speakers. The Regza Link using HDMI-CEC had also worked with the Sony BDP-S350 that allowed us to control the Blu-Ray / DVD player all from the single Toshiba remote. Toshiba's remote is considered a 4-item universal remote

Among the computer graphics tests we ran were Unigine Sanctuary, Unigine Tropics, Lightsmark 2008, and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars from the Phoronix Test Suite. We were pleased to encounter no ghosting, lagging, or other visual imparities. We had also encountered no dead or damaged pixels with the 32RV530U.

Conclusion:

We have been testing the Toshiba Regza 32RV530U 32" for a few weeks now and we are quite pleased with the entire product. The build quality of this television is very nice, the picture quality is superb, good audio for the integrated speakers, and overall it's a very nice LCD HDTV. This is not the best TV though in its class considering its refresh rate is just 60Hz compared to others offering 120Hz and other advanced features, but we are quite fond of it and the price isn't that bad. The MSRP on the Toshiba 32RV530U is $999 USD, but with a bit of searching, you should be able to find it for $650~700.
