If all goes according to plan the proper SteamOS comparison against other Linux desktop distributions will be complete and published tomorrow or Tuesday. If you want to see how your own system's performance stacks up against these numbers (whether you're on SteamOS or another OS), simply install the Phoronix Test Suite and run phoronix-test-suite benchmark 1312148-SO-STEAMOS1009 for a fully automated, standardized, and reproducible test experience.

For anyone that has any other SteamOS test requests for this weekend or January, let me know via @MichaelLarabel on Twitter. There might be a few other SteamOS articles in the next few days or Tweets pending any other discoveries about Valve's very promising Linux gaming platform. If you appreciate all of the work that goes into Phoronix each and every day (mostly by myself) since 2004 for delivering Linux testing and other hardware reviews -- long before many considered Linux to be a viable platform for gaming -- please consider subscribing to Phoronix Premium or consider a PayPal tip.
