Linux 4.7 CPUFreq Schedutil Testing vs. P-State

Not much of a difference for gamers.

P-State performance at least was performing appropriately for FFTE and HPC Challenge.

Well, those are the initial Schedutil results I have to share today. In a follow-up article will be more tests from another Intel-powered system along with the power metrics. Schedutil generally was performing on par with the other performance/powersave/ondemand ACPI CPUFreq governors. Rather surprising though was how poorly the Intel P-State governor was running on Linux 4.7. Generally with older kernels, P-State with its performance governor is almost universally on par with the ACPI CPUFreq performance configuration, but in these results there were a number of shortcomings shown by P-State. I may end up running some similar tests on this system with Linux 4.6 to see if there are in fact P-State regressions that are present in Linux 4.7 Git. Stay tuned.
