Ubuntu, RHEL, SUSE, Amazon Linux On The Amazon EC2 Cloud
For the MPI FFTE tests, Amazon's Linux distribution had a slight lead followed by Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 and then Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. In last was SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.
HMMer performed close to the same between Ubuntu and Amazon, but then fell behind with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was the fastest for MAFFT.
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was much faster than the other three Linux distributions for the MrBayes analysis workload, which most likely would come down to the significantly newer GNU Compiler Collection release compared to the other three Linux distributions.
Ubuntu also faired well with John The Ripper.
