Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS vs. 8.10 Alpha 2 Performance

While looking at 32 different test results can be challenging, in the end there was simply no clear winner. It was one competitive race between these two Ubuntu releases, and in many of the real-world tests the differences would go unnoticed, but in 20 of these tests Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS was in the lead. But were we looking to share with you that one distribution was dramatically slower or faster than the other? No, our goal with this testing was just to offer some insight that these Ubuntu Intrepid changes have on the performance. As you can see, with this Lenovo ThinkPad T60 laptop, the updated system packages made little difference. However, there is still over three months to go until Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" will be released. Look for additional Ubuntu benchmarks with an expanded selection of hardware as its final release nears.
