Ubuntu 12.04.4 vs. 13.10 vs. 14.04 LTS Desktop Benchmarks

The Qt4-based QGears2 benchmark indicated Ubuntu 13.10 being slower than 12.04.4 LTS, but fortunately the AMD Radeon HD 4870 is faster on 14.04 LTS... In general, the Nouveau, Intel, and Radeon drivers are faster and more featureful with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (sans regressions and cases where newly exposed OpenGL functionality causes greater rendering work), even compared to the 13.10 release just six months ago.

OpenArena is actually slower with the Radeon HD 4870 on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS vs. Ubuntu 13.10 for reasons not yet clear.
