AMD Ryzen Lenovo Laptop Linux Performance For Zen 2 / Zen 3 / Zen 3+ / Zen 4
First up are some of the Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browser benchmarks. Right off the bat using the demanding JetStream 2 browser benchmark, we see very healthy gains with the exception of the Zen 3+ Rembrandt refresh not delivering much uplift. But for those on an old Zen 2 Ryzen 4000 series laptop to now the Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 series, there was 45% better performance for JetStream 2.0 for those that are on a three year upgrade cycle for laptops.
Over time the power efficiency has continued to increase. There are some slight differences here based on the laptop firmware/model and some of the thermal characteristics. The ACPI Platform Profile "balanced" mode was used throughout testing as the default.
The Google Chrome browser benchmarks have also improved nicely for AMD Zen and a great performance uplift from Zen 4.
The WebAssembly performance has also improved quite nicely going from the Ryzen 6000 to Ryzen 7000 mobile series.
If you're thinking of a laptop upgrade this holiday season and running on a ~2020 laptop or older, there can be some nice uplift going for the Ryzen 7040 series.
