Benchmarking AMD Ryzen 5 5500U Linux Performance With A $450 Lenovo Laptop
First up are tests looking at the Radeon (Vega) graphics capabilities of the Ryzen 5 5500U up against the Intel graphics with the respective Mesa drivers.
For Vulkan compute tests on each company's respective open-source Linux drivers, the Ryzen 5 5500U tended to be competitive with the Core i7 1165G7 Tiger Lake processor / Gen12 Xe Graphics found within the Dell XPS laptop. There was surprisingly strong uplift from the Ryzen 5 4500U to 5500U graphics performance.
When looking at the OpenGL performance, the Ryzen 5 5500U continued offering nice uplift over the 4500U but generally came up shy of the Core i7 1165G7 Tiger Lake performance. Though for being a $450 laptop, not a bad showing at all.
