LunarG ILO Gallium3D vs. Intel's DRI Driver On Mesa 10.3-devel

The Linux graphics benchmarks we have to publish today at Phoronix are some tests of the Intel "ILO" Gallium3D driver that is independently developed by LunarG as an unofficial alternative to the classic Intel Mesa DRI driver that's officially supported by the Intel Open-Source Technology Center.

LunarG continues working on ILO Gallium3D largely as a research experiment and for showing off the firm's driver development capabilities. ILO Gallium3D remains part of the mainline Mesa code-base but isn't built by default. For Ubuntu Linux users interested in experimenting with this driver as well, the ILO Gallium3D driver does ship as an option via the Oibaf PPA.

The Intel Linux driver comparison today was done from an ASUS Zenbook UX32VDA ultrabook with an Intel Core i7 3517U "Ivy Bridge" processor that boasts HD Graphics 4000. Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit was running on the system with the Linux 3.14 mainline kernel and via the Oibaf PPA was the xf86-video-intel 2.99.911 DDX driver with Mesa 10.3-devel git-1751a9b stack.

From the Phoronix Test Suite a few different OpenGL Linux games were run for comparing the LunarG ILO Gallium3D driver performance against the official Intel i965 driver for this Ivy Bridge Linux system.
