Initial Benchmarks Of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.0 On An Intel Xeon Cascade Lake Server
First up was the OpenMP Rodinia benchmarks where RHEL 8.0 immediately showed how much faster it can be than RHEL/CentOS 7, which for this particular test can be attributed to the much newer default compiler. RHEL 8.0's performance for this molecular dynamics test is now in line with Fedora / Clear Linux / Ubuntu performance where as RHEL/CentOS 7.6 was in dead last.
RHEL 8.0 also offers newer Go language support though RHEL/Fedora-based Linux distributions seem to have a tendency to deliver slower Go performance than the other Linux distributions benchmarked.
The better GraphicsMagick imaging performance is also attributable to the newer compiler/toolchain on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.0.
