There was not a noticeable difference in the MP3 encoding performance via LAME between the N270 and N330 CPUs that are clocked similarly, but there was a small performance improvement when taking advantage of the 64-bit support on the later processor.

The same can be said about the FFmpeg performance between the two netbooks running Ubuntu Linux.

The Atom N330 found in the Eee PC 1201N had its performance nearly doubled compared to the Samsung NC10 with the x264 video encoding benchmark, thanks to the greater number of processing cores. There was also a smaller performance boost when switching to 64-bit Linux.

The 7-Zip compression performance was certainly in favor of the Eee PC 1201N with it delivering almost double the performance of the NC10 and its common netbook hardware.
