AMD Radeon R9 290 "Hawaii" Open-Source Driver Works, But Has A Ways To Go
The first test run was of OpenArena and for this most basic OpenGL game the Radeon R9 290 Hawaii graphics card was on top with delivering 30% more frames per second than the R9 270X or 11% more frames than the HD 7950 on the same open-source driver stack.
While OpenGL should work fine for Hawaii open-source fans, the OpenCL support and other areas of the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver remain less mature.
With the open-source Tesseract first person shooter, the Radeon R9 290 was much faster than the other pre-Hawaii graphics cards on Linux.
