First up was running the Blender 3D modeling software on the CPU with the BMW car scene.... With the small Dynatron 2U heatsink we find that right away the Threadripper 2990WX was forced into thermal throttling due to that insufficient cooler but the other heatsinks and water coolers tested didn't appear to have any throttling issues with about the same performance.

The coolest solution during the Blender rendering was the Enermax TR4 240 with an average CPU temperature of 43 Celsius and a peak of 48 Celsius. Meanwhile the new Cooler Master Threadripper heatsink had an average temperature of 53 Celsius and peak of 61 degrees. The Noctua heatsinks also did a good job cooling the CPU while obviously the NH-U14S was the best among those Austrian heatsinks.

it was a similar story with running more Blender workloads.

While running the C-Ray ray-tracer, the Noctua 2U heatsink continued to hit thermal throttling. The Enermax water cooling setup continued doing the best and under a 50 degree average while the air heatsinks were closer to 60 degrees at this stage.

In between the Phoronix Test Suite benchmark iterations, these cooling solutions all did a good job of quickly dropping the CPU core temperature in these brief idle periods.
