The five loop-back devices are for RJ45 network, game, serial, audio, and parallel ports. These loop-back devices are used when running the PC Doctor test software tests.

PC Doctor's CD/DVD test media includes the diagnostic test run CD, CD test media, and the DVD test media. If you only use Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD or another non-Microsoft operating system, the diagnostic test run CD will be of little to no use when in the operating system. This software is designed to support Microsoft Windows 2000 to Vista and DOS. There are PC Doctor utilities, however, that are available when booting from the DVD. The PC Doctor software is designed to test such components as the CPU, IEEE-1394 Firewire, memory, parallel port, PC card, PCI, PCI Express, and SCSI components. Contained on the DVD test CD were audio tracks for testing, video clips, and different simulation tests.

Onto something that's of more use to Linux users is the PCI POST card. While some motherboards have a BIOS POST code indicator built onto the motherboard's PCB, this solution is compatible with any PCI motherboard. Once the POST code is displayed, you then need to reference the POST codes for your specific BIOS such as AMI, Award, and Phoenix Technologies. The PCI POST card also has LED indicators for RESET, CLK+, +12V, -12V, +5V, and +3.3V lines. One item that's nice about this card is that the POST code is displayed on both sides of the PCB, which is convenient depending upon the computer's orientation.

The next item included with this diagnostic test kit is a power supply tester. This PC Doctor tester just happens to be a re-branded version of the Young Year YE-PST-II tester. A more advanced power supply tester is already available and contains an LCD panel, as we shared in our CaseBuy EZ PSU Tester 3 review. The PC Doctor PSU tester supports 24-pin ATX, 4-pin molex, 6-pin PCI Express, 4/8-pin 12V, 4-pin FDD, and Serial ATA power connectors. This power supply tester doesn't indicate if the voltage is fluctuating or the precise voltage, but just indicates basic information.
