Examination:

Unlike most of the manufacturers that outsource their PSU manufacturing to OEMs, OCZ Technology does design and manufacturer their PSUs in-house. One of the areas that had surprised us about the GameXStream 700W was its actual weight. Normally one of the first signs for judging the quality of the power supply can be its weight; generally, the extra load can be attributed to higher-quality components. However, the OCZ700GXS did feel a bit light compared to some of the other models we have had, but we will not be drawing conclusions yet this early in the game until we get a look underneath its hood, and see how it actually performs. The physical dimensions for this power supply are 150 x 140 x 86 mm.

At the rear of the power supply is a honeycomb style grill to allow for adequate airflow while refraining from using a second fan. On this side of the power supply was the usual power switch and plug. No 115/230V switch is used due to the full voltage range with the active power factor correction. The actual exterior for the entire power supply is black, and with the surface we had not run into any problems with scratches or fingerprints. On the side of the OCZ700GXS was a label containing the break down of all of the voltage rails and other relevant information.

The fan on the bottom of the power supply is a 120mm dual ball bearing, and is protected by a traditional wire fan grill. The actual fan is made by Protechnic Electric and is model MGA12012HB-025. Below is a shot of the innards of the power supply. The heatsinks for the 700W power supply are relatively small.

The cables for the OCZ GameXStream include one 20/24-pin ATX, one 4/8-pin CPU, two 6-pin PCI Express, six 4-pin molex, two 4-pin floppy, and six Serial ATA connectors. With support for dual graphics cards, and six connectors for both molex and SATA devices, there certainly are plenty of connectors to go around. The OCZ power supply does support ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V specifications. One of the nice features about the GameXStream is that all of the power cables are sleeved, rather than solely the motherboard connections. OCZ also includes a Velcro strap for easy cable management.
