There was certainly no distinct gaming performance advantage, or disadvantage, with our specific Mobility X300 when upgrading to the 8.26.18 drivers. However, ATI fglrx continues to bring forth a great deal of changes and new features in their monthly updates. This month ATI had instantiated the atieventsd daemon for hotkey display switching, DFP hotplug, and thermal event power management. Other features and changes were also implemented. Likewise, dynamic display management, among other features, have yet to be announced or supported by ATI -- they will likely make their official appearance in the coming months. Unfortunately no X.Org 7.1 support had worked its way into the 8.26.18 drivers but hopefully we will see this support in the near future. Similarly, the R200 problem persists in these June 2006 drivers. We invite you to discuss the ATI 8.26.18 Linux changes in our Phoronix Forums.
