Examination:

Examining the SilverStone Storage MS02 we were quite impressed with the design of the 2.5" HDD enclosure. On one side is the SilverStone plaque and the other side is bare with the exception of a small sticker. The entire exterior is brushed aluminum surface, which yields a great appearance, and along the edges is a chrome accent. The two external activity LEDs indicate when the device is powered as well as when data is being transferred. On one side of the MS02 is the mini USB connection, DC +5V port, and one touch backup button. The theoretical transfer speeds thanks to the USB 2.0 port is 480MB/s. As mentioned previously the 2.5" hard drive is generally able to sustain all of its power simply from the USB 2.0 connection. Upon tightly grasping the unit, the enclosure would not flex, which is the result of the durable aluminum construction. The overall size of the device is 84 x 22 x 133 mm, which should be able to fit in most coat pockets and briefcases even with the external carrying case.

To open the device, four screws need to be removed (two from each side) and the drive tray should slide out. Attached to the aluminum 2.5" drive tray is the PCB with IDE to USB adapter. The 2.5" hard drives supported by the SilverStone MS02 are Enhanced IDE, ATA/ATAPI-6 devices. No 2.5" Serial ATA drives are supported by the MS02. Accompanying the drive enclosure is a carrying case/handbag designed for transporting the unit. The case is similar to what we had seen with the Bytecc Hotdrive HD-201U2 that allows the drive to fit snugly in place as well as the USB cable.
