LINUX KERNEL
The very large DRM pull request for the Linux 3.15 kernel was submitted just moments ago with significant updates to the open-source Linux graphics drivers.

Among the highlights of the Linux 3.15 Direct Rendering Manager updates include:

- Many Broadwell support improvements. When Intel releases the Broadwell CPUs in a few months time, for those using the onboard graphics will want to be using at least the Linux 3.15 kernel for best support for these graphics that succeed Haswell Iris/HD Graphics. Broadwell brings a ton of graphics changes to the extent that Ubuntu 14.04 is shipping its own special kernel driver.

- Many other Intel graphics improvements.

- DRM documentation improvements.

- Primary plane support out of Intel developers.

- The Qualcomm MSM driver now supports power management and HDMI audio support.

- The Nouveau driver has continued work with GPU fault recovery support, initial Maxwell support, and other fixes. The initial NVIDIA Maxwell support is limited to mode-setting and the hardware acceleration support requires using the binary blob's firmware/microcode. The Gallium3D support is still a work-in-progress for NVIDIA's new Maxwell architecture that has succeed Kepler. More details within Basic NVIDIA Maxwell Support Coming In Linux 3.15. Sadly, Nouveau in Linux 3.15 has no major improvements to its re-clocking / dynamic power management support.

- Various Samsung Exynos DRM updates.

- The Radeon DRM driver now supports VCE video encoding support but as already covered in earlier Phoronix articles is limited to certain GPUs, updated Mesa/Gallium3D code, and other requirements.

- Other Radeon DRM updates.

- Render-node support for VMWgfx.

Of course, as you can see from the links, if you're a daily ready of Phoronix most of this news is actually old news and has already been covered in articles in the past days and weeks as the patches gathered. The full listing of the patches for the Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) pull request targeting the Linux 3.15 kernel can be found via this mailing list post.
