Phoronix Test Suite 4.0-Suldal expands the capabilities of Phoronix Media's leading open-source, multi-platform testing software to advance the areas of standardized automated benchmarking, per-commit regression testing, and performance efficiency monitoring.

Munich, Bavaria (PRWEB) - 23 July 2012 - Phoronix Media has announced the immediate availability of Phoronix Test Suite 4.0 (codenamed "Suldal") as the next-generation platform for conducting automated and reproducible benchmarks under Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, BSD, and Windows operating systems. Additionally, upcoming milestones have been announced that will further enhance standardized open-source testing and computing performance research.

Phoronix Test Suite 4.0 introduces many new features intended to offer greater flexibility and capabilities for carrying out automated benchmarks and test cases that scale from embedded devices to super-computers. Among the notable features introduced to Phoronix Test Suite 4.0 are improvements for monitoring performance-per-Watt efficiency of computer hardware and software, hardware/software component detection enhancements, a new result viewer interface, more verbose and intelligent reporting of system details, greater documentation, and more advanced result analytical features.

The Phoronix Test Suite allows individuals and organizations to carry out automated and quantitative test cases and benchmarks in a fully automated and standardized manner using a unique open-source testing architecture. The Phoronix Test Suite offers over 200 separate test profiles and 60 test suites through its integration with OpenBenchmarking.org, another Phoronix Media component that provides a collaborative web-based platform for analyzing test data, hosting test profiles and test suites, and providing a straight-forward means of comparing test results.

"Many of the features introduced during Suldal's development benefit all users from Fortune 500 organizations to leading research universities and independent end-users," says Michael Larabel, the founder of Phoronix Media and lead architect of the Phoronix Test Suite. "The fourth-generation Phoronix Test Suite software continues to set new precedence for automated testing and remains the leading choice for IHVs, ISVs, academia, and other organizations for handling performance monitoring management, component comparisons, and customer-driven research. Going forward with our next set of milestones, the feature-set will continue to be enriched as its role within multiple fields is expanded."

Phoronix Media is committing today to delivering two new software products in Q4'2012: Phoronix Test Suite 4.2-Randaberg and a new software product currently being developed under the codename "Unterschleissheim", an original Linux-based performance research operating system for analyzing hardware performance with a fully-standardized software stack. Phoronix Test Suite 4.2 will continue to push new levels of automated testing and autonomous test-driven development. The "Unterschleissheim" project will build upon the concepts and technology developed for the experimental PTS Desktop Live initiative in years prior to create a compelling Linux OS for facilitating direct hardware performance comparisons. Revised versions of the Phoromatic and OpenBenchmarking.org software will also soon be entering closed-beta to select partners.
