Phoronix Test Suite 1.6 Brings New Benchmarking Features

Version 1.6 of the Phoronix Test Suite brings new testing capabilities, updated test profiles, and new run-time options.

Grand Rapids, MI -- January 20, 2009 -- Phoronix Media today released Phoronix Test Suite 1.6, which is an incremental update to its flagship testing software. Phoronix Test Suite 1.6 (codenamed "Tydal") makes it easier for ISVs, IHVs, OEMs, and independent users to benchmark Linux, OpenSolaris, FreeBSD, and Mac OS X computer systems. Introduced in this update are new options to autonomously carry out tests and to analyze the generated results, expanded test coverage, and other features to more effectively test software and hardware on supported operating systems.

Significant development resources have been invested in making Phoronix Test Suite 1.6 the most versatile testing platform available for Linux and other operating systems. Phoronix Test Suite 1.6 supports turnkey deployment capabilities and is able to run all tests in a standardized, fully automated environment. There are more than 240 official changes in this quarterly update and many more underlying improvements to pts-core, the software's testing engine.

"Tydal is the latest iteration of the Phoronix Test Suite that seeks to push the limits of Linux benchmarking by adding in several new options, offering more tests, and incorporating many low-level improvements," said Michael Larabel, the founder of Phoronix Media. "We are already beginning to turn our attention to Phoronix Test Suite 2.0, which will be released in the second half of 2009 with its features to be disclosed in the coming months."
