XanMod-ing Ubuntu To Perform Closer To Intel's Clear Linux
XanMod (and even the default Ubuntu kernel) did pick up some wins in the I/O benchmarks like SQLite and FIO. For NVMe solid-state storage, Clear Linux does continue to employ the MQ-DEADLINE scheduler while most Linux distributions don't default to using one for these speedy SSDs.
The modified Ubuntu stack did put the Ubuntu performance comparable to that of Clear Linux with t-test1, a memory allocation micro-benchmark.
With Google's libgav1 AV1 decoder, even with the basic changes it wasn't enough to match the Clear Linux performance.
Likewise, with the Java benchmarks, Clear Linux has tuned their OpenJDK implementation a fair amount and so for cases like that the modified Ubuntu performance still comes up short.
