Ubuntu 17.04 Gaming Performance: Budgie vs. GNOME vs. KDE Plasma vs. MATE vs. Unity vs. Xfce
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the outliers when it comes to running on GNOME Shell or the GNOME-based Budgie desktop. Mutter seems to still get confused with a select number of Linux games at least when launched by the Phoronix Test Suite that Mutter thinks the game is unresponsive but in fact is running just fine, will often then minimize the window, etc. But in reality, CS:GO should work just fine on GNOME.
There was some variation in the Dota 2 benchmark results with GNOME Shell and MATE and Xfce running slower than the others while KDE Plasma 5 and Unity 7 were on top for this game with its OpenGL renderer.
