Quad-Core ODROID-X Battles NVIDIA Tegra 3

Thanks to MIT for these early ODROID-X Linux results on the Phoronix Test Suite with OpenBenchmarking.org.

The benchmarks in this article show the quad-core ODROID-X at 1.40GHz running Linaro 12.08 with the Linux 3.6.0-rc2 kernel and GCC 4.6 compiler. For comparison was the NVIDIA Tegra 3 Cardhu tablet with its 1.4GHz quad-core as well along with 1GB of RAM. The Tegra 3 though was running Ubuntu 11.04 with the Linux 3.1.10 kernel and GCC 4.5.2. NVIDIA currently only provides its official "Tegra 4 Linux" file-system as a soft-fp Ubuntu 11.04 file-system. The next release should be updated to an Ubuntu 12.04 sample file-system I'm told, which will use the hardfp packages and also an upgrade GCC compiler -- this means that there will definitely be more Tegra 3 performance improvements in the next release as hardfp and an upgraded compiler should yield some significant boosts in performance. The dual-core 1.2GHz OMAP4460 on the PandaBoard ES was running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with the Linux 3.2 kernel and GCC 4.7. Once I my hands physically on an ODROID-X, I will be able to run a better comparison with the package versions matching more closely (and for "Cardhu" once the new NVIDIA Linux 4 Tegra is available).
