With the BlogBench test that is representative of the I/O work for running a blog web server, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus came in at 22% faster than the 970 EVO.

While the high-end Intel SSDs easily dominate with the PostgreSQL database server workload, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus did come in at 31% faster than the 970 EVO model.

If looking at the performance-per-dollar for these drives and their current retail prices, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus was largely the front-runner of the tested NVMe solid-state drives I had available.

Lastly is a look at the geometric mean of all the I/O benchmarks carried out on these drives via the Phoronix Test Suite. The Samsung 970 EVO Plus came in at 22% faster than the Samsung 970 EVO of the same capacity while the Samsung 970 PRO was just 6% faster than the 970 EVO Plus.

Overall, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB drive is a very capable performer for Linux desktops/workstations if you are looking for a cost-effective NVMe SSD. The Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB can be found from the likes of NewEgg.com for about $130 USD.
