A Fresh Look At The PGO Performance With GCC 8

The Crafty chess benchmark benefited by a very small amount with PGO.

The Stockfish chess benchmark performance advantage was slightly more noticeable than Crafty.

The TSCP chess engine saw about a 9% performance boost thanks to GCC's PGO.

The ebizzy benchmark that tries to resemble server workloads saw just about a 3% rise in performance.

That's the quick look at the GCC 8.2 RC1 PGO performance for those curious about the current impact of profile-guided optimizations on some real-world workloads. More tests will be coming with our next compiler comparison.
