Fedora Logical Volume Manager Benchmarks

There was not any significant difference in the Apache web-server results for our Logical Volume Manager benchmarking on this low-power Lenovo system.

Interestingly, for the PostMark mail server benchmark, EXT4 with the Logical Volume Manager installation was nearly 20% faster than EXT4 without LVM. This is the opposite of what many were anticipating would be the case for the Fedora disk benchmarks.

For the Compile Bench results, EXT4 with LVM was also faster. The results are somewhat surprising as the LVM performance numbers are higher. Fedora doesn't use write barriers with LVM, which may be the explanation for these results, but further testing is needed or comment by some of the Red Hat file-system developers.
