Intel's Clear Linux distribution still has a very strong showing on AMD desktop and server processors even with the distribution's lack of focus for AMD platforms. In some cases though Ubuntu and other distributions are beginning to compete better than what we saw years ago.

With Zstd shipped by the different distributions, CentOS Stream and AlmaLinux 8.4 were yielding the best performance at the low compression levels...

But at the highest compression level of 8 and higher is where Clear Linux jumped out ahead of the rest.

Clear Linux had particularly significant leads with Zstd's long mode.

When it came to video encode performance across a variety of open-source video encoders for different formats, Clear Linux was consistently leading over the rest of these modern distributions.
