Radeon Gallium3D Moved Closer To Performance Parity With AMD's Catalyst In 2014
Furmark on the open-source AMD Linux driver (Linux 3.18 + Mesa 10.5-devel) did fairly well compared to Catalyst 14.12 with the binary blob not winning by too significant margins.
With the triangle bandwidth test of GpuTest the win was certainly with the well-optimized Catalyst blob.
Unigine Tropics started out on the HD 6450/6870 Northern Islands graphics cards as being 20~24% faster with Catalyst 14.12 Omega while the binary driver's lead expanded to up to 53% with the Radeon R9 290 graphics card. The pre-Hawaii GCN graphics cards were 25~32% faster on Catalyst than the latest open-source Radeon driver.
