AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U Linux Performance
When taking the geometric mean of all 124 benchmark results carried out on this assortment of laptops running Ubuntu 21.10, the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U stood up very well. Overall the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U was about 12% faster than the Core i7 1165G7 Tiger Lake processor for the large variety of benchmarks carried out.
During the span of the 124 benchmarks conducted, here are the CPU package power consumption metrics. The Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U indeed stuck to its default TDP reporting of 15 Watts while the peak was recorded at 28.4 Watts. The Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U enjoyed lower power consumption (and better thermals than the Dell XPS Tiger Lake XPS) with that popular Tiger Lake processor having a 27 Watt average during the span of tests and a peak of 71 Watts.

Overall the Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U and Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen2 has been working out very well under Linux and stay tuned for additional follow-up tests in the coming days/weeks. At $1299 USD this AMD Ryzen ThinkPad is a hell of a steal but even at its current pricing around $1900 it is a robust Linux laptop with 8 cores / 16 threads, 32GB of RAM, and 4K display that can work out quite well for a mobile development system and related tasks.
