Running Nouveau on VDrift is a slightly different story from the two earlier results. This time around Unity, GNOME Shell, GNOME Classic, and Xfce are performing close to one another on the top end. The Unity 2D and KDE Plasma performance though fell behind a great deal. With the binary NVIDIA driver, it was Unity 2D and Xfce where the performance was suffering. The Radeon results were also mixed. With the Catalyst driver, there was no measurable difference in performance between the six desktops.
