Benchmarks: AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Performance Boosted With Ubuntu 23.10
For those doing a lot of web browsing work, while hardly taxing to an AMD Ryzen 9 desktop, the performance is better with Ubuntu 23.10 than prior releases all while using the same Firefox build. The performance meanwhile with the Intel Raptor Lake desktop was largely flat.
Not only was the raw performance better in tests like Speedometer, but the power efficiency was also much improved with Ubuntu 23.10. These boots are thanks to the new AMD P-State default.
These AMD Ryzen performance improvements were also seen with Google Chrome. These gains with Ubuntu 23.10 on AMD Zen are all the more important with these light, single-threaded tests is where Intel CPUs have traditionally had an advantage under Linux compared to AMD. With Ubuntu 23.10, the gap is more narrow.
The raw performance in the JetStream 2 benchmark has improved with Ubuntu 23.10 on the Ryzen 9 7950X.
The Intel Raptor Lake browser benchmarks were stable across the tested Ubuntu versions while AMD Ryzen narrows the gap with Ubuntu 23.10.
In some WebAssembly benchmarks the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X performance now matches the Core i9 13900K on Ubuntu 23.10.
Overall the web browser results for AMD are quite nice on Ubuntu 23.10 thanks to the AMD P-State driver by default.
