AMD EPYC 7003 "Milan" Performance On Ubuntu Linux Six Months After Launch
80 tests were run across the four tested Ubuntu Linux configurations. Ubuntu 21.10 (with either its stock Linux 5.13 kernel or the upgrade to Linux 5.15) represented 80% of the wins with fortunately no major performance regressions found during the testing.
If taking the geometric mean of all 80 benchmarks, Ubuntu 21.10 with the latest Linux kernel was 5% faster than Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. However, as shown in many of the graphs in this article, depending upon the particular workload the gains can be much larger. The benchmarks show the Ubuntu Linux performance continuing to evolve quite nicely on AMD EPYC 7003 series a half-year after launch and the performance is looking well ahead of next spring's all important Ubuntu 22.04 LTS release.
