Power Use, RAM + Boot Times With Unity, Xfce, GNOME, LXDE, Budgie & KDE Plasma
Next up is looking at the overall system memory usage on the freshly-booted desktops under Ubuntu 17.04.
KDE Plasma 5 had the highest memory use by a long shot, at least as presented on Ubuntu 17.04. Then was GNOME Shell while the Wayland session saved a little bit of RAM. LXDE came in with the least reported memory use. Also keep in mind different desktops may be using more/less RAM due to their default services (or at least as packaged on Ubuntu 17.04) and may be more aggressive or not about caching some items, etc. So take the numbers as you wish.
