Ubuntu 11.04, 11.10, 12.04 On The NVIDIA Tegra 2
Some of the OpenMP-based NAS Parallel Benchmarks are also set-back with the 11.10 and 12.04 packages.
SQLite database performance had pulled back under 11.10 but has recovered so far in the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS development cycle.
Overall it seems that most of the computational tests are performing better with the newer Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 user-space packages, which upgrades the GNU Compiler Collection to the 4.6 series over the 4.5 release found in Ubuntu 11.04. The 4.6 compiler upgrade with greater ARMv7 architecture enhancements is likely what can be attributed to most of the performance improvements found in this article. The only real concern in this article is the disk performance dropping in some of the file-system tests. The kernel was unchanged between the package switching, which may mean that the Unity desktop or other user-space services are becoming more active in the more recent package versions.
