6-Way File-System Comparison On The Linux 4.1 Kernel
For sequential reads with FIO, the fastest file-system was EXT4 followed by XFS and ReiserFS while Btrfs and F2FS were a short distance behind. By far the slowest file-system tested was the seldom used NILFS2.
When it came to a simple FS-Mark run, F2FS was the fastest followed by NILFS2 while the other four file-systems were close to the same speed.
After having FS-Mark deal with multiple threads for testing the disk/file-system, EXT4 jumped out in front as the fastest.
With a final FS-Mark configuration (4k files, 32 sub-directories), F2FS was the fastest again followed by NILFS2.
